Carbothermic Reduction of Zinc Containing Industrial Wastes: A Kinetic Model

Abstract Effective recycling of zinc-containing industrial wastes, most importantly electric arc furnace dust, is tremendous importance for the circular economy steel and zinc industry. Herein, we propose a comprehensive kinetic model combined carbothermic metallothermic reduction oxide in metal bath process. Pyro-metallurgical, large-scale lab experiments carbon-saturated iron melt as agent molten slag were performed to determine reaction constants accurately predict mass transfer coefficients proposed model. An experimentally determined demonstrates that various reactions run simultaneously during oxide. For investigated composition, temperature-dependent contribution was between 25 50 pct overall mechanism. The coefficient quadrupled from 1400 °C 1500 °C. recovery rate > 99.9 all experiments.
